All that’s Fit to Publish
Gende's Giant back at Shank Hall
We're very excited to be asked back to Shank Hall (see our "Shows" link). We had a great time there in July of '09. We hope to expand our audience in Wisconsin with our new show on Friday January 8th, 2010. Come one, come all!
Kerry Minnear Leaves Three Friends
It looks like Mr. Minnear has left the band. While not having any troubles with anyone, he will no longer be performing with the other former GG members re-creating their fine music. One can hope he will still contribute new music to the band as Three Friends continues on. All the best to them.
Three Friends!
Now, that’s
news! If you are a Gentle Giant fan and have not yet heard, three of
the origial members of Giant (Kerry Minnear, Gary Green, and Malcolm
Mortomore) plus other talented players and playing live in Europe as "Three Friends". This following Mr. Green and Mr. Mortomore
playing as "Rental Giant" in a live show late in 08. YouTube
has full songs, check it out! One can only hope they will be coming to
America soon.
Website Update
News?
Well, one "big thing" is that
as of early May, 2009, this website has finally been updated. It’s
basically a totally re-working of most things. Why? Well, for one thing,
a lot has changed since 2007, which was that last time I believe I
posted anything to this site.
Things In The Band
It is worth noting that we have a group with stable membership these
days. While the band members are detailed on the aptly named Band link,
note that Spencer Lent has come on board and is doing a lot of lead singing.
He also plays keys, is a music teacher, and has perfect pitch. Add to
that, long-time members Eric Larson, Tom Johnson, Phil Smith, and Mike
Gende.
I suppose its worth mentioning that Mike Gende, who was doing a lot of lead singing, is now playing the bass. Mike is a bassist of 35-plus years, and is very influenced by Ray Schulman, among many others. Thus, it was a move that made sense. Add to that his playing guitar, violin, and sax (plus other things to a lesser extent) and it seemed the right thing to do for the band.
Management: Enter Matt Lewis who is running the business end of things
these days. We needed someone to help us out, and Matt was willing. It
seemed as though if we were going to play in front of anyone, we’d need
some kind of management to help make it happen. To wit, we are playing
two shows in July, see the Shows link, hopefully the first of many.
MySpace Page
We’ve added a MySpace site for Gende’s Giant. Tom and Spencer basically
keep that running (if I’m mistaken, I’m sure they’ll tell me). You can
find pictures, some rehearsal out-takes, and people to network with who
like this music. Login there and search or just go to myspace.com/gendesgiant.
